DBA to Cap Off 2019

Steve G. hosted a nice Saturday midday game session. We used his Later Crusader Kingdom of Jerusalem army vs. a Byzantine army. The miniatures were gorgeous. The coffee strong.
The battle action interesting and varied.
Impetuous knights ended my first game in a loss.
Managed to win the next two games.
Wonderful way to end the year of gaming.
Thanks for looking in on the blog.

Sumer Knights

My latest DBA army.  Bedouins.  These are to be used in our Sumerian campaign game.

Playing at Mike's new house.

The full compliment of players were able to come out and do some DBA gaming.

I tried my hand at doing a cork painted 2'x2' table.

Two Sumerian armies battle it out.  Played twice and got a 1 win, 1 loss result.

Steve's super cool city gate camp!

Heavy chariot general.

Bedouins vs. later Sumerians.

Thanks for looking in on the blog.

Sumer Knights

The "Monday Knights" are gearing up for some Book I DBA.  We are going to do a campaign using Sumerian/Mesopotamian armies.  I have made some investment in Museum Miniatures and will be painting at least 4 more armies.

Below are my Eureka Sumerian I/1b. army just off the paint table.  Will likely add some flock once I get all the armies together.

Monday Knights

A triple D B A Game featuring Seleucids  versus Ptolemaic.  A great forest of pike gathered Monday at M. Sanderson's house for a triple DBA fielding of the collection of S. Gross fantastic miniatures.
Above image: two of the three Ptolemaic commanders marshaling their forces across the quite open battlefield.  The left flank had a river but neither force deigned to use it strategically.

My command above.  Seleucid pike and elephants with a knight general.
Elephant selfie.

A view towards the left.  S. Gross would succumb to the Ptolemaic power first and our left flank failed.  Then the right flank general under C. Wilkowski would also fail sending that flank into a drudging army.

My center force crashed into M. Sanderson's force and we had a grinder of a battle in the middle using all the tricks in the book to try and decide the game.  In the end it would be the Ptolemaic forces that controlled Syria and the fertile grain basket of the middle east.
My general knight stand.

The most promising fighting that took place on our right flank Against C. Southard.

The end game.  I took out the opposing general but had demoralized my forces by losing more than four stands.

DBA Hoplite Battle

Taking a few pictures of my Monday night game group.  We play DBA.  Got to get out my Spartan Hoplites for some action in two games.

About every two weeks we get together for DBA action.  A couple of weeks back we had a bring your army night of gaming.

Got to race around on light horse with a Mongol army.

This is one of my six by six challenges (I made it pretty easy I know but hey.)

Modular Terrain Mats from Flooring Material

I found 31 rubber floor mats with the interlocking puzzle edges at a local GW outlet.  I paid $5 for the entire lot.  So this project had a very attractive entry fee.  I have a blue painted plywood table and wanted to do a river stream pattern on some of the tiles.  So I guessed on a scale of sorts and started cutting 8" river sections out of the tiles.  I made enough riverbank to cross the table North to South and East to West with some bendys.
All pieces laid out on the drive way for some quick roller action painting.  I summoned my inner Jackson Pollock and began.

These paints have been around for at least 10 years and they still produce a great selection of colors for terrain tablecloths and mats.  So I was hoping I had enough for this project.

I got out a few of my picnic cloth mats that I have painted for inspiration.  I feel like I scaled this paint scheme to 20-54 mm troops.

Let the painting begin.  Roller paint the roads and then the fields.  River banks got a sandy touch.

The process took about an hour and a half to get all the feel I was looking to create.

Uh-oh, mom's home.  Better get this off the driveway.

Th finished pieces and some hills.  I can do an 8x6 foot table with modular roads and rives. The drawback is that this is a storage beast and takes up a lot of room.

Cheers, and thanks for looking in.
