Recruits Convention 2017

The annual Recruits convention in Lee's Summit, Missouri was a wonderful time.  I went as a player this time around and had a great time getting in some wonderful gaming time with old friends and new acquaintances.
I have played in this GM's French and Indian war game before and I always relish the chance to push around some 54mm lead figures from Jenkin's collectibles.  I played as a militia commander and was tasked with defending a small settlement from attacking Indians.

He would not live to see the next day....

That's me with the pistol.  A gallant figure and he fought bravely in the game.

The "settlement."

This time I sat astride a destrier and fought in a medieval knight melee.

Again I died valiantly and not necessarily all that epic.

Great 90mm game.

And then I drove around in a bad-ass Dodge with a machinegun mounted on the hood.

Had an epic flaming fireball of a death in this one.

Bought some old football miniatures at the flea market.

All of these and some more for $1.00

Bought a significant piece of electric football history with this acquisition.  This was a private sale that was arranged after a war game acquaintance asked if I would be interested in looking at his game from his childhood.

I was very lucky to acquire this item.  A prized piece in my set collection.

The 1970 Electric Super Bowl.

Chiefs vs. Vikings

Complete, near mint condition.

I played in two DBA tournaments as well but never took any photographs.  I used my ancient British  Book II. 57.

Cheers.

Death from Above

The Blue Bomber Air force attacks.
In the Deadzone, crazy axles and alloys drivers test metal and men in the sport of death racing

Angry machinery poised for mutual and victimized destruction.

The cauldron they call pit row is a dangerous place to rest your teams cars.

WTF!  That car just flew through the air hailing machine gun bullets out of the sky!!!!!

WWWAAAAAAHHHHH!!!!!!

Oh hell yeah!

Buyah!  I laughed so hard beer came out of my nose.

A great segment in our F1 calendar.  This time we are at Ted's for an Axles and Alloys Deadzone race.  The final points look like this:
Terry Carr and the "Dutch Oven" in first place with 10 points
Ken Van Pelt in the "Blue Bomber" with second place and 6 points.
D10 Billy and the Pokey Red Rocket in third with 4 points.
John C. in fourth in a replacement vehicle after the "Yellow Flamer" was knocked out takes 3 points.
Jon Haworth in the "Fishbat" took fifth and has 2 points.
And the host with the most took the least (he always get's a beat down in the Deadzone!) Our own Ted Conn in his replacement car gets 1 point.   His rail buggy had targets painted on all sides.

Post Apocalyptic Kit Bashed Thunder Road Throwdown

The Secondhand Lions faithful brotherhood of war game enthusiast convened at the casa de Conn for a play-test of Axles and Alloys.  Ted has scaled up a 1/64 Hot-wheels version of Thunder Road and we also want to use the kit-bashed cars for other mayhem and destruction games so our club has decided to try out the free available rules called Axles and Alloys.
Let's look in on the rumble and thunder of our first game.  Here we see the good guys in blue trying desperately to secure fuel for the citizens of Summitville.  "Motherload" is the name of our fine community's fuel transport and our escort team of Angels can be seen shepherding the truck around dead man's curve just outside of town.  My task was to get across the table with the fuel.

Rival news agencies were in the air covering the fate of the "Motherload."

EEEEEEEERRRRNNNNN EEEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRNNNNN!!!!!
Yeah, I got to yell that air horn sound effect each time I moved the big beast.

Rumble....

Three teams of bandit outlaw car gangs came against the Motherload and we lost the truck just a mile outside of town to a huge fireball of flame.

Here we can see the famed Tall Boy hummer getting ready to catch some serious air.  Tall Boy crewed by Ken VP currently holds the club record for "time aloft" at 10.5.

One of Jon H's buggys head butted my buggy and killed my driver outright.  He got thrown from the roll cage and was just a sack of bones when he hit the desert gravel.

Wow!  Can we play again.  I have a feeling that we might see some individual cars get created from this game set of rules.  It was a great night of friends, beer, and laughs.
