Lionheart

Got to play some Lionheart on vacation with my brother John and his boys Kale and Landon and my son Tony.  Great afternoon of gaming during a rain delay at the lake.
I casually started them off with the base game and then we gradually added all the aftermarket items available on the internet to add complexity and depth to the game.  The images in this blog post are after four base games that got gradually more complex by adding terrain and specialist troops.
The defeated royalty of the gold side try to plan their revenge and how they would of won "if they hadn't lost."  We teased them pretty bad.  "Yeah you could of won if we hadn't beat you."
The silver knights lead away the gold king in a backwards horse march out of the castle proper.
The silver raiders caught the gold king in his keep lightly defended.
Have at you!!
Really happy Tony sat in for a game.  He has not played the wargames stuff in years.  He used to play when he was younger but has sort of lost interest.
The grand game wherein we combined two boards, terrain, 4 actions per side, and all the troop types except mercenaries.
Homemade dice tower can be seen in some of the pictures.
Absolutely love this games flexibility and ease of set up and play.
The Golden hand of god points to where a decisive action must occur.

Thanks for looking in.  Leave a comment if you like what you see.

A Night of WWI Gaming

On a recent thrift run I found a complete copy of the American Heritage Dogfight game.  Vintage goodness and flying fun.  I like this game a lot.  Had a chance to play two sessions of this as we waited for the full club to meet on Thursday night.

Mr. T. played the Germans and I took the American planes.  I won the first game by allowing the Germans to run into my "bug zapper" anti-aircraft guns. I did have a double ace in that one.

Come on double ace!

The second game was rife with play mechanic inaccuracies but we gave the game to Mr. T. in a fun eight card exchange that included 3 loop defense cards.  A good laugh because that is about as awesome a card series as this game could create.

The second table game of the night was Hordes in the Trenches.

This one was a grinder as the French British allied attack ran into a well defended trench.

Mr.'s T. and T. commanded a staunch German line.

The Great War

Opening game last night of The Great War.  Played as British in scenario 2, introductory level.
The left flank of the army.

The center, showing our mortar position and the right flank machine gun.

Back at HQ. They got reams of paper work.  When will they send some of that for artillery support.

This shows the left flank advance that stalled and got shot up.

This shows the right flank advance that stalled and got shot up.  This one was much more successful but could not carry the day.
I am very pleased with the idea of this game and I am glad that I bought it.  The miniatures are very nice and well done.  The British minis had a hard time keeping bayonets when I clipped them from the sprue but other than that it was a pretty easy assembly.
I am looking forward to commemorating the 100th anniversary year of WWI with this title and my Blue Max games.  Keep checking back for the tanks coming out in this game.

Viktory II Solo

On the first day of my Christmas vacation I,  ...
...got out my Viktory II boardgame and set up a four player map.  I randomly drew capitals out of my cap to set up the start points on the map.  I poured a nice Makers Mark and enjoyed about 6 turns of the game playing solo and watching the Fox news special on Patriots about the battle of Trenton and the American Recolution.

Today I just finished two turns and am going over all the rules to make sure I know how to play the game correctly.  I absolutely love the miniatures in this game and really like the way the board is revealed in the initial play.

That is not snow up in the NE.  Those are still unexplored terrain areas on the map. I like Green's position with the inland sea.

I think this game is out of print.  If you can find a copy and like combined arms 18th century flavor I would recommend the title.

The Yellow guard units at the capital.

The frontier between Redland and Bluvonia.

Red threatens Bluvonian capital.

Feudal

During the Middle Ages, there were two feudal kingdoms which bordered one upon the other.  One kingdom was ruled by King Ethelred the Great; the other by King Aelfric the Barbaric.  Raids between the two kingdoms were frequent and often savage.  The bloodiest part of each kingdom was the border area which was  claimed by both kings.  Both had tried unsuccessfully to gain possession of this disputed territory as had their ancestors before them.  Many schemes had been tried and had failed.
One day Aelfric decided that the only way to end the dispute....

Christmas in the Lion's Den

Thursday night was the Secondhand Lion's Christmas party and gift exchange.  We gathered at Ken's for a pizza and beer dinner and the wargame for the evening was going to be the venerable old title:  Feudal by 3M games.

We discussed the rules and went over the game set up and then we put all of the kings from the various forces into a box lid and drew our part in this "old saw."

Fighting for the Blue force:

Terry C. played the part of King Ethelred.  High commander of the Blue banner.

Ted C. played the part of his brother Ethelbert the duke of light blue.

And Jon Mark played the part of the young prince, Edgar.  Heir apparent to the blue throne.

And the Browns

Across the field of battle the rustic brown heraldry can be glimpsed in the unadorned and unassuming banner of the Brown King Aelfric.  Called a barbarian by the prissy blue aristocrats our own good king and provider was played by
D10 Bill C..  Seen here marshaling his forces against Duke Ethelbert.

And secure in his castle proper we see my part in this Feudal drama.  I played as the Son of Aelfric, prince Alfred, sporting the medium brown heraldry.  I survey the battle field from my castle as I attack the shire of prince Edgar my counterpart rival from the blues.

On my immediate left flank fought the allied duke Athelstan.  Recent family friend to the brown household of King Aelfric played valiantly by Tommy M.

Each noble royalty went into battle against a randomly drawn opponent and fought one battle under one on one Feudal board game rules. The match ups were: King Ethelred vs. Duke Athelstan and in this combat the Duke of the Brown turned the aggressor into the besieged and won the day.
The Blue King would be trapped in his castle.
It looked bad for the young Duke at first but Tommy would turn this press into a win.

Prince Alfred the Brown would overcome his rival in the Blue household and beat Edgar into a besieged capture.

Word from the battlefield of King Aelfric was that he is prisoner of the Duke Ethelbert and lost his battle.

Current tally Blue is 1-2 while Brown is 2-1.

The evening gift exchange went mildly with no contesting prizes in the white elephant and then everyone getting a good chuckle over the assorted gift bags and boxes.

Pleasantly this years war game season passes into history

We ended the night with a 2 minute per lane Carrera GO! road rally with discussion leading to much more slot car in the future.
